How much is the maximum weight for the luggage travelling within US?

How do i travel when i will always be overweight with luggage?

  • Pro photographer with portable studio equipment, I will be travelling extensively over the next 12 months mainly around Europe from the UK. I imagine I will have one large piece of luggage + hand luggage that could weigh up to 35-40kg. If I buy business class tickets am I allowed double weight to economy? If I just turn up with 40kg can my luggage be refused? I'm just wondering what the procedure is for flight travel when I can guarantee I cannot stay in the allocated weight.

I think you have two separate problems - the first is the mean-ness of the airlines and their plans to make money out of people with a lot of luggage. The second, which is the more important, is that the EU has imposed weight limits which apply to ALL industries and not just airlines - these limits specify an amount which it is acceptable for one individual to lift without harming him/herself. I believe (open to correction) this is currently 32kgs for any 1 item to check in but I also think this will be reduced to 25kgs which is the norm for other industries. This is not the airlines/airports trying to cause you problems - they have to impose these limits to comply with the law. I would work out all your travel plans for the next year and then try to negotiate an overall deal with BA or another airline which can fly you to your destinations. You are probably already a member of the Executive Clubs, etc., but joining one of those will at least build you a nice portfolio of airmiles if you start flying business class.

The business class allowance normally is 30 kg for the checked baggage. Hand luggage 2 pieces in business class. Excess weight has to be paid. It is kind of decission of the check-in agent, what he overlooks. But don´t wonder, afterwards, if in the ticket are shown 30 kg!!!

Try contacting the major airlines and asking them. I'm sure there must be some provision for people like yourself who need to pack lots of gear. It may be that you have to pay extra.

Either way you will have to pay the excess baggage charges which can be expensive depending on the airline.Easy Jet appear to be one of the better Airlines for your situation.Flying Business class within Europe is expensive and no the weight is not doubled.
