I'm going on a 2 week tour through 8 European countries. I have lived in the UK since birth, do I need a visa?

I don't travel much as you can probably tell! I have heard of the Schengen visa, but do I need one? Thanks!

Answer:
All above answerers are presuming that you hold a British passport, but you only state that you have lived in the UK since birth. You might also be born to non-UK parents which were not settled at your time of birth (visa holders) and hold a passport of another country and Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the U.K. In this case it will depend upon your citizenship whether you need to get a Schengen visa. Just enter your country on the attached website of the French Embassy. http://www.ambafrance-uk.org/Do-you-need-a-schengen-visa-to.html .. If you don't need a visa for France you don't need one for the other 23 Schengen countries on the European continent either. http://dc.the-netherlands.org/Services/Consular_services/Visa/US_citizens/Traveling_to_the_Netherlands/Tourist_and_Business_Visa_for_the_Netherlands_Schengen/See_also/Map_of_Schengen_countries .. Btw [&@Younosygit]: as British passport holder you also don't need a visa for Moldova and the Ukraine @Younosygit: Ukraine has lifted the visa requirement on 1st September 2005 [after ESC] http://www.mfa.gov.ua/uk/en/2322.htm ..

if you have a british passport then your allowed to travel too, from and through any european country as you wish - a perk of belonging to the E.U. :)
ha.
If all the countries are in the EEC then no. If not you will have to look up visa requirements on web for that country - most of them dont require visa for UK passport holder. And don't forget the passport !

if you are going through countries of the european union you dont even need your passport - but it would help, if you are a genuine british citizen (not one of these 3rd gen islamic terror cell types) then you should know this already

It depends on which countries you're visiting. If you've got a British passport then the answer is "no" for all EU countries, and pretty much any other European countries except Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova. If you got to Turkey then you buy a visa at the border for cash (£10 for UK citizens, I think - different prices for different citizens!). Contrary to Zoltan Socrates' answer, if you're a British citizen then you DO need a passport to travel to other EU countries (except Ireland) - EU citizens need either a passport or national ID card to cross borders, and our new government is just abolishing our ID card (not that many people had been foolish enough to buy one anyway). [@GerdP: Thanks, I wasn't sure about Moldova, and Ukraine must have changed since they hosted the Eurovision Song Contest - visa rules were specifically suspended for that!]
