What is airmail and the process of using airmail?

• first i wanna ask what is airmail, cause my friend from overseas wanna send me a cd via airmail. and how long does it take for the item to be sent to me?? lastly, i wanna know, what is the process that the sender need to take to sent the airmail and the process that me, receiver need to take ?? like, do the item gonna be sent to my house mail box or i need to sign the item first before receiving it ?? can someone please answer me, and thank you so much

  Your friend will have to go to a post office, since the envelope or package will have to be weighed. He/she will be given a Customs Declaration form to fill out, that will be attached to the envelope/package. Make sure he/she indicates GIFT on the form so you won't have to pay duty or tax when it arrives. He/she should request Air Mail service (which means it crosses the ocean in a plane and not a ship, if that's even still done, which I doubt). The clerk at the post office will then determine the cost of postage, and then your cd will be dispatched. When it reaches your city, it will be delivered to your mailbox just like any other mail.
