How exactly do i get a passport?

How to I get a passport?

  • \\ Hi friends! // So, I am a 15 year old from Pennsylvania who is in need of a passport. I will be going on one of those educational trips (mine is to Spain and France) this upcoming summer (2011) but I need to have my passport in by the beginning of December. No one in my family has a passport, so we have no experience with this type of thing and I was hoping someone could help me. Like I said, I am 15. However, by the time of my trip, I will be 16. I don't know if that will affect what type of passport I should be getting or something. I searched "How to get a passport" on Google and there just seemed to be a lot of conflicting things and I was just hoping someone could tell me for certain what I should do. \\ All Advice Appreciated! //

  • Answer:

Call the post office. Some of them do passport applications there. If the first one you call doesn't have one, they will direct you to one that does. Usually the bigger ones do this, at least one in each city does. When you go, you'll probably need a birth certificate and one of your parents since you're under 18.

No one mentioned that it is almost the 1st of Nov. and you said you need to turn in your passport by Dec. 1. Not likely to happen. It takes 4 to 6 weeks to get a passport and you need to allow the full 6 weeks to be safe. If you want to get it in 2 to 3 weeks you can pay the extra $60.00 to have it expedited and pay the express mail fees too.
