Is it legal or illegal to bring alcohol on a plane (in your checked baggage)?
-
I was wondering if it would be fine to bring alcohol and put it in my checked baggage without getting in trouble in the airport? I'm flying from LAX to MANILA but I have a stopover in KOREA. If it's not illegal to put alcohol in my checked suitcase, my plan is to transfer the bottle of vodka to a plastic bottle so it won't break. Also, I already know about the policy of not bringing any liquid/gel/foam in your carry-on :) The age limit on drinking/buying alcohol in Manila is 18y.o and I believe it's 19 in KOREA. BTW, I'm 21. HOPE YOU GUYS COULD HELP ME. THANKS! :)

Answer:
You are dealing with two different questions. What is legal to carry with you, and what can be imported into the Philippines. The Rules for departure screening FROM THE US is that NO item containing more than 70% alcohol is permitted - none at all. From 24% to 70% alcohol, you can take 5 liters. Below 24% alcohol, there are no limits. HOWEVER - that has nothing to do with any import restrictions in the Philippines. I don't think it matters for your stopover in Korea. You will not have access to that luggage. You need to find out what the import limits are for alcohol in the Philippines so that you do not have any of it confiscated by customs people when you land.

It is legal to pack alcohol in your checked luggage unless it is very high proof (ex. Bacardi 151 & Everclear) which is considered flammable. Tranferring the alcohol to a plastic bottle is a good idea. The duty free allowance is probably one liter, but check.

It's legal to bring one bottle in your checked baggage, however, it has to be in the original container otherwise it will not be allowed into the country.

It's 100% illegal, at least in Canada.
