How can you ship something?

How do I ship something through USPS?

  • I sold some stuff on Ebay for the first time and have no idea how to ship it. Do I put it in my own box or envelope and take it to the post office and they weigh it to determine the cost? I also heard that you can buy an envelope or box at the post office and they ship whatever you can fit in it no matter what it weighs. I am not sure which way would be cheaper. Please someone help me. I am going through USPS not UPS or FEDX. The items that I am shipping are jeans, shoes, and a very light dress. I have gone to usps.com and they have a lot of info but do not answer my question. Thanks in advance. I

    You can certainly use your own box or envelope,providing they are not beat up and worn looking(personally I don't mind someone reusing a box to ship my item as long as it is not dirty) then you simply take it to the post office and they will weigh it for you to determine what it will cost. You can buy envelopes and boxes from post offices but they can get a bit pricey,starting at about $2 and up,so that will cut into your profits. If you ship via priority mail the boxes and envelopes are free and you can get them right at the post office.You can get a flat rate envelope for about $4.80 postage,flat rate box for about $8 postage,so if you are shipping heavier or multiple items will end up being cheaper.Or you can get regular priority envelopes and boxes there free and the postage will be based on the weight,starting at $4.80.Usually the post office employees are pretty helpful in helping you determining which would be the best route for you if you aren't familiar with all of the options,so don't be afraid to ask them.Hope this helps!

Express Mail envelopes are flat rate, but it sounds like what you have will not fit. Just do what most people do. Find an old box laying around big enough to hold the items. Seal it well with tape. Cross out any old address or markings on the box. On one side of the box, clearly print the To: and From: addresses. Take the box to the post office. They will weigh it there and give you the prices of shipping it Priority mail or regular ground shipping. You tell them which one you want and give them the money. You can also decide if you want to add the optional Signature Confirmation or Delivery Confirmation.

If the items weigh more than pound, I would suggest you get a flat rate box from USPS (you can pick it up at the post office before hand and pack it at home if it's easier). Depending on which box you're using, the flat rates start at about $8 for postage and are not affected by weight, just make sure that whatever you're mailing fits within the box without alteration. Why not take a trip to your local Post Office and ask them their rules?

Put it in your own box - you can buy one or use a old one, re-cycle. just make sure there is no address on it. Has usps had you print postage labels - if so attach these to it. Make sure you put your senders details on it also. If you want to save a bit, if you have a thick strong plastic bag what the items will fit in, use it. Turn it inside out so its plain side is showing and tape it closed. Apply the address label and wait for collection. I use Interparcel.com i find they are the cheapest and they use many couriers. If you go on the DHL website and get a quote, then go on interparcel.com input the same details, they will get your parcel collected by DHL for cheaper. I think DHL and other companies gives this company cheaper rates as they get so much custom. Good luck
