Passport Application Question?
-
I am an adult (20) applying for a new passport. I got my last passport when I was a baby, and it has since expired. Will I need that passport to get my new one?

Answer:
US? If you have never had an adult (10 year) passport, you must apply in person. You may apply at a local Acceptance Agency - usually your local USPS office. Some offices require appointments. http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html You will need a completed Form DS-11 You can fill it out online and print it out - print ALL pages http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds11/ds11_842.html or get one at the Post Office. They will be happy to answer questions Proof of US citizenship - usually a Certified copy of your birth certificate - the one issued by the county or state in which you were born. Since you do have your old passport this would also be the proof you need as well. To be sure the Passport Agency is happy with the documentation, I would send both the birth certificate AND the old passport. One passport photo - most USPS offices will do it for $15 copy of your valid US/state or gov't issued ID. The copy goes to the Passport Agency. When applying for a U.S. passport in person, acceptable identification must be presented at the time of application. Primary Identification (One of the following): Previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport Naturalization Certificate Valid Driver's License Current Government ID (city, state or federal) Current Military ID (military and dependents) There are other options if you do not have current valid ID A fee of $25 to be paid to the acceptance agency - this is not specific to the USPS - you would pay this the first time at the Passport Agency as well. A check or (Postal) money order for $110 to the Dept. of State Normal processing is 4-6 weeks. If you want the passport in 2-4 weeks, you add $60 for expedited service ($170)
