My passport is slightly damaged, what do I do?
-
Unfortunately, my passport went through the wash after I had booked a holiday. I fly out in 6 days. The damage isn't incredibly severe, but: - All the pages are pretty dog eared - the gold emblem on the front is almost completely faded - The lamination is slightly unpeeling in the corners - the piece of card with my photo on has become fairly unpeeled from the piece of plastic behind that. I have been advised that there's a 50/50 chance that it will be accepted. I have therefore decided not to risk it. Is there any way that anyone knows where I can get this passport replaced quickly? I know that I can make an appointment then go down to the regional passport office to have it replace on the same day, but apparently the one day service doesn't apply to damaged passports? Does anyone know if it's possible to convince them to allow me to take the one day replacement service if the passport is damaged? This is gonna be on my mind up until I leave, and I'm really worried.

Answer:
You actually have two options. 1. Try to get it replaced at one of the seven Regional Passport Offices in the UK. They usually do not offer Premium Service in case of lost, stolen or damaged passports. I can understand this if the passport was lost or stolen since additional screenings are required in this case. However if the passport is physically present it should be able to be replaced. 2. Try to fly if your destination is within the EU. EU citizen are not subject to immigration inspections but they just need to present passport or national ID card. Take as many picture ID as you hold to back-up your identity in addition to the passport. A son of one of my friends is a German Federal Police officer. One part of his duties is immigration/passport control at the Dusseldorf airport. He told me that he would let you in as long as the passport is readable and it is backed-up by a British EU driving licence..

The best thing to do , and what I suggest in doing is get a NEW one!!!! The last thing you want is to spend more time and get held back in security, In travel the best thing is to be prepared and ready, and all your items are okay like your passport or ticket. Just get a new one, just imagine the worst possible scenario , You could be running late , and with a damaged passport they might hold you back , and just cause you might have chose to not pay and get a new one you lost your flight
hmmmm
Get a new one. If the laminate or photo looks as if it's been tampered with you won't be going anywhere except immigration's interrogation rooms.
