What do I need to pack to backpacking through Europe?

I'm an 18 year old female planning on backpacking through Europe from February to June. Does anyone have advice what sort of things are extremely important to have with me, as well as anything that will be completely pointless to bring. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (While you're at it, If you have any suggestions of places I have to see let me know)

3 pairs of clothes, 3 pairs of underwear/socks, comb, nail clippers, tooth brush/paste. basically the bear essentials. the rest you will find in the places you stay.
