How much money to bring to France?

How much money should I bring on my ef tours trip to France???

  • I'm going to France with my school (through EF tours) and I don't know how much money to bring along! We have to pay for our lunches, but our plane ticket/hotel/tours/supper and breakfast are already paid for. I also want to shop a bit. Also, what are some good meds to bring on the plane so I don't get a really bad jetlag? Any suggestions or other info would be appreciated!!

I went on an EF Tour to France before (you'll love it!). One of the girls in my group took Nyquil on the airplane to France and slept through the entire flight. By the time we arrived, she was well rested. Whatever you do, though, don't bring bottles of liquid medication in your carry on that exceed 3 ounces each. Someone else in my group did that and it was confiscated by airport security. As for spending money, it all depends on how much you like to shop. Don't forget that there is an exchange rate between Euros and USD (should I assume you're from the US?). You'll get fewer Euros for your dollars, so you should keep that in mind. I brought $600 and it lasted me the full 8 days (and I'm a big shopper). If you're just looking for little gifts to bring home, then $400, give or take, should be fine. But if you're looking to buy more costly things, such as items from stores instead of gift shops, then I'd recommend at least $500. Also, make sure to bring a lot of energy! You'll be active A LOT. I remember one night on tour, my group got back to the hotel at 3:00 a.m. and had to wake up at 7:00 a.m. Caffeine will become your best friend. And have fun! Trust me - the experience will be great. =)

As far as meds on the plane I don't know. I know that when I went to France from the US I had a wicked headache when I got there. I realized later that it was because I didn't drink enough water. So my advice is to stay well hydrated inflight and while you are there. I developed a big appetite for San Pellegrino water while I was there. I kept a liter bottle in my backpack all the time. As far as money goes. I wouldn't take a lot of cash - maybe $50.00 or so with you. If you can take a credit/debit card to use at the ATM - imho that's the best. You usually get a fairly favorable exchange and usually not so many big fees. You can call your bank to find out. You just have to be sure that you are in an area where there are ATMs and/or banks. I was in Provence and I had no trouble with that at all. In Paris of course there won't be any problem. Again, check with the bank for any information. Often stores also take credit cards. You can just plan it so that you have money to get you through a few days before you have to go again. Obviously at open air markets you would need euros. You can ask your teacher for any suggestions as well. Oh and practice your French while you are there. Hope this helps.
