What are some essentials for a road trip?

• My best friend and I are planning on going on a road trip to California for our senior summer, before we start college. It will probably be just the two of us, but we might have another person come along with us. What are some important things to have/know while we plan the trip? We have a little over a year, since we're still juniors.

  First of all, know where you're going. I know this seems obvious but make sure you know exactly where the destination is and all the roads to get there. If you have a smartphone it'll be easier but if you don't, buy a map and mark which exits and roads to take. Plan fun activities and lunch stops and bathroom breaks and all those necessary stops ahead of time. I know you cant really plan pee breaks ha but at least mark them on a map. Buy a map! Take your car in for a check up and oil change before you go. Tell the mechanic you are planning a trip to _____ and he'll make sure everything is working good and tell you of its safe or not to drive. Make sure you have a phone AND charger. Since you'll be by yourself, you want to be able to call for help if needed Make sure you have enough money not only to spend on food, lodging, and entertainment, but if an emergency happens. If you don't have enough, make sure to talk to your parents and make sure they have enough to help you if your car breaks down or something else. Other than that, just make sure you bring enough essentials! Clothes, bathroom supplies, shoes. You don't want to have to in down to a store just because you forgot to pack underwear. Bring your iPod or CDs so you can listen to music in the car. I know it's a year away still but good luck! :)
