First time flyer! What size bag for CARRY ON and what can I bring?

  • I am going to TX for 2 weeks and flying for the first time! [[ SCARY :( ]] I need help figuring out what size bag I can use for a CARRY on to put in the over head compartment... I have a little Roller bag and I also have a duffle bag and need to know which to use. I also wanted to know if I can bring my blow dryer and straightener and make up[[Like mascara and eyeliner and foundation]] in my carry on. ANY HELP PLEASE!! Thanks

  • Answer:

The size of the aircraft you're flying determines what sized carry on you can bring aboard. When in doubt...check with the airline you're flying or simply check it in. 51 linear inches is usually the standard on most major airlines. Remember...just because it has wheels on it, doesn't mean you can drag it and everything you own onboard an aircraft. And another thing...if you can't lift that bag over your head to get it into an overhead bin, check it! Don't expect the flight attendants to do it for you! They are not there to lift or stow luggage for you. ANYTHING liquid, must be in 3oz containers or less, and must be able to fit in a ZIPPED closed, 1 quart ziplock bag. This includes mascara, makeup, hair gel, perfume, etc. When in doubt, check with the airline or tsa.gov .

Size max depends on the airline but is about 22"x14"x9". (Per Delta and United) Blow dryer, straighener yes. Make up nothing liquid over 3 oz in size.
