How much would it cost to travel the world for one year?

• My plan is to first travel around central and south america, then move on to africa, europe, asia and lastly, australia. I plan to only bring a backpack or a very small suitcase with a few changes of clothes and other necessities. I'm not sure if I'll be going alone or not because I plan on going after I finish college and I'm only 17 right now. I've got $3000 in the bank right now, which is pretty much nothing. How much would it cost to travel and how can I save that much in 5 years?

  Do a lot of research, find out what countries require a visa to work or to just visit the country, i would suggest a round the world ticket (as long as you travel in one direction) as this will save money, for example US to south America then Europe Africa then Australia then back to US, the cost will be lower if you can fly in and out of the same airport. you may need help from a travel agent for this type of ticket. This ticket alone could cost $2,000+ with out any visa fees. Look for good travel insurance, and work out where you will be staying, transport while in each place, are you going to buy a bus or train pass or hire a car (you need to be 21 or over with a full drivers license). You also have to take into consideration that in every place you may not find a job so don't rely on this.
