How to ship a package with USPS?

How would I package/ ship products to customers via USPS?

  • I need to know how I would go about packaging products (e.g. drills, speakers, sneakers, etc.). Can I just take the product into the post office and have them package and charge me for the shipping, or can I package things myself and take them to get shipped? If so, how would I package items and do I just put them in boxes?

  • Answer:

Go to the following USPS website for their suggestions on packing stuff for shipping: http://www.usps.com/send/preparemailandpackages/preparingpackages.htm I don't believe they do packing but they do sell packing materials. If you want to pay someone to pack the stuff for you, you probably need to go to a shipping store such as Boxes Plus. USPS does offer additional help for customers who want to sell things on eBay and ship them via USPS. They've offered some workshops in my area and gave out a CD with all the workshop content. You may be able to get that.

The USPS does have boxes at the post office. They charge you for them unless using Priority mail boxes (free) and will not help you pack and they do not have foam peanuts to cushion your item(s). I would suggest using a UPS store. They will pack your item and then charge you and your item will be on its way! You can always pick up a used box from walmart, grocery store. etc... Make sure the box is clean and does not advertise beer or anything and it will be fine. Save time if using the post office, address your package and tape it up good!

The UPS store is a rip-off. You can use Priority Mail boxes supplied for free from the post office. You can pack them yourself, with other supplies purchased at Staples. US Postal offers free carrier pick-up, and you can order free supplies and print postage online. If you do enough business they can supply you with a free scale to weigh your packages.
