  • Hi, I have today sent away my passport renewal form, for a new UK passport. The advertised timescale is around 3 weeks. I was wondering if any of you had recently had a renewal issued and if you could give me an idea of the current timescales? Your help is appreciated! Thank you

    That all depends on which country you are currently residing in. I live in Europe and I'm sending my application off in a matter of days, however close friends and colleagues who have recently renewed theirs, have told me that it generally takes between 4 -8 weeks but some have been completed in as little as 3 weeks. When I was living in the UK my passport managed to get renewed in about 5 - 6 days. So like I said it all depends on where you are currently living.

i renewed my passport and had the post office check my application form and they also sent it off on april 6th, it was returned within a week.

I live in the US so this could be different, but for my UK passport, the embassy told me up to 3 months (because they had a large inflow of applications). You could try giving them a call and they can let you know how approx much longer.

all standard applications are processes in around a three week time period from the time of receiving the application form (please note that this will not include extra allowed time for potage and this can often effect the time at busy periods i.e bank holidays and Christmas periods. We would recommend this service as our results where swift and we received our passport within 2 weeks of our application. We would recommend using the Check and Send service offered by many Post Offices as this is the method we choose to send our application, for more information on the check and send services available you can visit the post office website.

I renewed mine in the UK in February - I posted mine on a Saturday afternoon (so too late to actually enter the post until the Monday) and got my new passport on the Tuesday week afterwards, so just over a week, although admittedly at a quiet time of year.
