When traveling is it better to have a backpack or suitcase?

Studying abroad, backpack or suitcase?

  • I'm headed over to Denmark for 6 weeks in May to study abroad. I plan on traveling for a week and a half after my program is done. Im just wondering if you would suggest packing my stuff in a suitcase or to buy a backpack and do it that way?

Depends. If during that week and a half you have to be very mobile with your luggage like need to carry it while hopping from bus to bus city to city, taking trains to one place or another, etc I'd go with a backpack. If you are just staying in maybe one or two cities or taking taxies between hotels (taxi driver will help you with your luggage), I'd go with the suitcase. I think you can only get about one weeks worth of clothes in a backpack to still be really mobile so be prepared to wash your clothes a lot if you take a backpack. With the amount of traveling you want to do the best idea would to be bring a backpack. Since you'll be there in the summer, you won't need a lot of warm clothes so all of the necessities will be pretty easy to squeeze into a backpack. Your other option is to bring both at first, and then ship your suitcase home before you head out to travel and just bring your backpack for the week and a half. It might cost a little extra but it will save you the hassle and at the same time you'll have everything you'll need for the 6 week study abroad program.
