Some traveling tips for a someone who's never traveled aboard.?
-
I'm flying for the first time in May. I will be going to Amsterdam and St. Petersburg, Russia. The total time I will be traveling is for 3 weeks. I have never flown before so I would like some tips for things to do on the plane and during layovers. I will be traveling with a group of around 21 people. I'd also like to get some ideas of things to bring and things to do while I am there. I'll glady take tips, tricks and hints from anyone who'll offer. Thanks so much.

here are some things to know when traveling....... * Pack liquids, gels, and other prohibited carry on items in your checked baggage. You may carry on up to 3-4 ounces of contact solution and other necessary liquids as your carry on. * Know the size limit of your carry on bag. Usually 45 linear inches (total size of lenth, height and width) Most airlines allow one personal item also such as a purse, brief case, lap top computer, etc. * Make photo copies of your important documents, such as your passport, bank info, ID, flight itinerary, credit cards, important addresses and phone numbers. You can also scan these documents and store them in your Yahoo account as an e-mail. * Pack all your medications in original bottle with lables. * Pack an emergency wallet with extra money, and important documents. * Become familair with the currency of the country you are flying to. Some airports have currency converter offices where you can convert your money to the proper currency. Carry a small calculator so you can convert US dollars. * Visit the website of the airline you are flying to confirm your flight and also to check for prohibited items on board. Be at the airport 2-3 hours before departure.

Just to add to Bigschwin...'s good list: make sure you have good insurance and read it thoroughly, if something goes wrong and you have insufficient coverage it can be brutal. screw on tops for anything liquid, gel etc... others can be messy! open mind all the time, bad situations that can't be avoided usually turnout to be the best stories. bring a deck of cards, someones always up for a game in a big group on a long wait at the terminal. chew gum on take offs and landings for any ear aches. Drinks lots of water during the flight especially if you take part in some booze. always agree on cabfare before the ride.check your travel guide book for current prices. ENJOY!
