When traveling is it better to have a backpack or suitcase?

Traveling to new zealand - suitcase or backpack?

  • I am planning on studying abroad in new zealand for 6 months and I plan to be doing a lot of camping/traveling. I am hoping to goto australia and the cook islands/fiji while I am there. Air new zealand only allows me to check one bag, so I was wondering which would be better? suitcase vs backpack?

  • Answer:

Suitcase if you think you'll be on flat surfaces, backpack if not. If you do go for a backpacker make sure it's able to zip open entirely, not just the top, so that it's easier to organize and access everything you want

BACKPACK --- Nuff said? Get yourself a good AND STRONG backpack, preferably one with wheels and pulling bar. Victorinox makes one, but there are other manufacturers. http://www.luggage.com/Victorinox-Travel-Gear-Architecture%AE-3.0-Big-Ben-17-Wheeled-Laptop-Backpack-in-Black-31323501-NOX1432.html I am several generations (!) older than you and have learned the "good" way to ONLY trust a strong backpack. We go everywhere with street shoes in the backpack, a maximum 8.5 kg load - carry on on ALL airlines - and with our hiking boots on the feet - not weighed.
