What will happen if you lose your passport?

What will happen if someone got a hold of my passport number, not the passport itself.?

  • I still have my passport, but can someone screw you over if they have your passport number?

  • Answer:

Absolutely nothing. A passport number is of no value to anyone other than the person whose information is on file. For example, if you lost your passport and provided your number to a passport office for a renewal, you would still have to produce picture i.d. No one else could do that.

Other answers

Well they could use it to steal your Identity. They could forge a false passport which they would use to obtain other ID which would allow them to get credit cards etc with your name. But they would need all the details from the main passport page to do this.
