Warm Vacation Packing Tips?

Going to Wisconsin for two weeks on Vacation. I need packing tips or 'space savers'! I always overpack.

  • Im leaving for Wisonsin (all over, we are going to drive around, so don't ask where) in two weeks, for two weeks. My dad said I have to fit everything in my carry-on luggage because it's apparently too expensive to check our bags. ? Anyways, I always over pack... like for a field trip for two nights at Sea World I packed a HUGE bag, PLUS a suitcase. I'm crazy like that. Also, anything that saves space in the Luggage? I've heard of rolling the clothes up.. anything else? Also, if you live near or in Wisconsin, what do you think I would need? Thanks in advance. :D

Oh! Packing light is an art, but it is so much fun, and it sets you apart as a sophisticated traveler. First, get a bunch of zip-lock bags in different sizes. Then, list all your daily necessities, and do this as you do your daily routine. Like glasses, something to sleep in, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, hairbrush, etc. "Wet" things that travel on a plane must be SMALL sizes and in one zip-lock. Next, pick a 3-color basic theme. For example, if you like jeans, let's say your theme is blue, white, and gray. That will be it, except for little other dashes of color. So bring pants: long, short, and in-between or a skirt if you wear them -- in those three colors. And then shirts: camisoles, short-sleeved, long-sleeved (maybe, check the weather), perhaps one thing in case it cools down (like a hooded sweatshirt) -- again in those colors. Those are your basics. From there you can add to keep it interesting. Shoes, just two pairs: walking and sandals. Remember underwear and socks. Evaluate what you have so you can mix and match like crazy. Maybe change out your hoodie for a windbreaker or something if it rains, which it probably will at some point. Now the fun, for whatever room you have left, is for color. Bring a colorful purse, colorful jewelry, scarves, headbands, sunglasses (don't forget these), swimsuit (don't forget this either). Finally evaluate it so you have something to feel dressy in if you go out for a nice dinner, or rough it if you take a walk in the woods. I don't roll my clothes, I pack them flat. I fold them into neat rectangles half the size of the carry-on and set them into the bag in neat stacks. With just two pairs of shoes, I wear the bulkier pair and pack the other. I fly in my bulkiest clothes and tie my jacket around me to save space. I am a knitter and always have one or two knitting projects with me, as well as a book or two, so I carry a big purse, and the airlines never object to me having a bag in addition. But I appear very orderly, and I am quiet about it all. I think your Dad may be a little hardcore on this, but you might have burned him with two bags for a two-day trip to Sea World before. Anyway, try to get HIM to carry your beach towel! Have a lot of fun on your vacation, and don't forget your sunblock!

Here are a few ideas on how to pack for a 7-day vacation Each person should only pack what they need. Most children over the age of 4 should be able to easily carry or pull on rollers, their personal stuff from the car to the hotel room, cabin or tent in 1 trip from the car. If you can’t, then you’ve packed too much! 1. Each person (kids over 4 included) gets their own toiletry bag. Don’t make mom responsible for everyone. 2. Pack enough summer clothes for 3 days plus a pair of long pants and nice shirt. 3. While at the pool, do the laundry 4. Toiletries - pack a tooth brush, tooth paste, comb or hair brush, soap etc for each person. Blow dryers etc... maybe. 5. Pajamas: No girlie or tacky sleepwear - bring something that can substitute for a pair of shorts or a shirt just in case of a clothing disaster. 6. Bring 2-pairs of shoes: walking shoes and sandals 7. Bring a Windbreaker of some sort. 8. Sweatshirts or Polar fleece jackets – If you are going to buy souvenirs, buy a sweatshirt or jacket. It’s a useful souvenir and the memory will last until it’s worn out or out grown. 9. Pack the swimsuits and towels separately. You’ll probably want to use them as soon as you get to the destination. Not to mention, they’re probably still wet from the day before. On road trips, our towels always drape over the luggage in the back of the minivan so that they can dry. (Thank goodness no one can see them through the tinted windows) ----------------------------- In different one gallon zip lock bags, individually roll the kids T-shirts, shorts and underwear. Squeeze the air out. Place the bags in their suitcase. If you do this, then dirty clothes never touch clean clothes. Come laundry time, you won’t have to sort laundry and you’ll probably have less to wash
