You can use debit if it has Visa or MasterCard printed on it. If not I don't suggest cash but instead Traveler's Checks. You can get these at your bank usually free or another bank for a fee. At the bare minimum go to a local store and put that money on a prepaid credit card.

Spain uses the Euro. Contact your bank to see if they offer currency exchange. Otherwise, you'll find plenty of places to exchange your Canadian Dollars for Euro once you arrive. The exchange rate hasn't been too good lately, so prepare to spend more than you thought you would. Enjoy your holiday - have some Tapas & Sangria for me.

It would really be best to use a credit card.. My bank had always advised me that it's the best option when travelling far from where you live.. But yeah you're 18 so just take cash, but make sure you have plenty for what you need. your bank may charge you alot for using your debit overseas. Spain use euros now so yeah it's cool that can keep whats leftover for the next time you visit europe..

The Almight Dollar is still popular but be advised, you will get screwed on the daily dollar to Euro exchange rates. Do not change money at the Airport, you will get screwed too. If you have a bank near you that will change your money, they usually do not charge as much as the blood sucking vermon at the airport.

First of all, don't believe the person who said "dollars...they work everywhere". That's ridiculous. You cannot use any currency except EUROS in Spain. You can however use your debit card to withdraw money at cash machines. Spanish banks charge 1-2 euros for this. Of course, your bank at home probably also charges you. You can also bring some canadian money with you and change it into euros at the airport (or at an exchange place in town). Be careful to carry large amounts of cash in a money belt. I know some people use traveler's checks, but i've always found the to be an inconvenience. As someone who travels between Europe and the US a lot, I definitely prefer to use my debit card and withdraw money when i need it.

Alright Aimie, believe it or not im going to spain in august to malaga for the month to work, am STILL planning it now, need some help!! lol. With the money situation, your currency is stronger than our sterling with the euro. so the amount you should take is entirely up to you, the most important thing is that you need food, accommodation and some comfort essentials such as phone cards, snacks, alcohol etc etc. anyway if you like, i can tell you more as i have almost planned my side of what im doing in malaga. Hope this has helped you a little. Chris
