What is a good backpack to use backpacking?

Opinion needed for backpack!!?

• I am looking for a really good backpack for college books and also one that I can take with me backpacking in Europe. I need something good for my back but also spacious and easier to conceal my items. I don't mind spending the money on a backpack that will last me a long time. I am looking at getting very good use out of it between trips and daily walks around campus. Does anyone have any preferences or opinions on which brand is best. Much appreciated!! :)

  I hear that for backpacking you want a smaller rather than larger backpack. Often times you don't need half the things you pack and you just end up lugging around pounds and pounds of extra weight. I recommend reading the book "Vagabonding" to get some information about backpacking overseas. As for bag type, I'm not an expert on brands, but I'd get something with plenty of pockets that isn't as big as a hiking backpack. Unless you are going to be sleeping a lot outdoors, you don't need too much space, and not too much clothes, since you wash them as you go. If you find you haven't packed enough, it's better to buy what you need on the road than to over-prepare and end up throwing your things away to make your load lighter.
