How long does it take to ship from Canada to the United States?

Can an Australian tourist take fruitcake with them into the United States and Canada?

  • My aunt plans to visit the United States and Canada, and wanted to know if she can take her mother's fruitcake with her. They have tried contacting the American Embassy and the Australian Embassy but noone can answer this question. Is there a place on the web that this can be answered?

    I wouldnt take fruit cake with me or any foods like that because once you land in USA you will have to discard them. If you do take it and declare it they will tear up your bags looking through everything you own. I have declared things before and it ends up being a pain. It is best not to take things that will need declaring. If you think you shouldnt be bringing something, chances are you shouldnt be.

Just ship it ahead of time. Then it shouldn't be a problem since there are no fresh fruits or vegetables involved. Even if it gets there after you leave, it's a nice "thanks for letting me stay with you" gift.

I think you can take just about any food into Canada. US is much more restrictive.
