How hard is it to travel through mexico without a travel pass?

    It is actually not hard, it is just not legal. Once, I accidentily forgot to get my turist card, and drove the entire length of the country without any problems at all. All you have to do is stop at the immigration office at/near the border crossing and fill out a small piece of paper called FM-T (Forma Migratoria Turista). They will give you up to 180 days to travel around México. Before those six months are up you can ask for an extension at any INM office in the country. An extension costs aproximately $20 -$40 USD.

It is called a tourist card, or an FMT. You get it at the border or on the plane. The cost is only about $25.00 and you are required to turn it in at the border when you leave Mexico..or you will be fined. What is the problem with just getting our tourist card when you enter? It allows you to stay in Mexico up to 180 days and is no problem at all to get. Edit: In case you are planning to DRIVE to mexico and are referring to the car permit...You MUST have the car permit or your car can be confiscated. Traffic officers who see a u.S. plate DO look on the windshield to see your permit. Also, you will never get past the 12 mile checkpoint without the car permit.

yea i think u need a permission thing if not the mexican police take your car. but you can get one at the mexican embassy
