What can you bring on a plane?

What foods can I bring and not bring by plane from Canada to Mexico, from a vegan, natural diet foodie.?

  • What kind of food am I allowed and not allowed to take to Mexico (Cancun), From Canada (Ontario) by airplane? I know many people will say to not bother because we can find almost all the same stuff in Mexico, but I'm a vegan and eat a strict diet of natural, least-as-possible processed foods. The sudden temperature change is going to be huge, and I'm sure I'll get somewhat stressed because it'll be my first time out of the country. I also don't know what kinds of foods I'll be able to find there, so I want to see what kinds of foods I can bring with me to try and eat as similar as possible at first to the way I was eating before I left. Specifically, I'd like to know if I can bring things like natural unsalted unroasted nuts, natural peanut butter ((just peanuts) and if there's such a thing in Cancun), dates and organic raisins, unsweetened cocoa powder, grains (like quinoa, rolled/quick oats etc), raw vegan foodbars (they're like powerbars, the food is ''raw'' meaning the ingredients are cooked at a very low temperature, but I don't know if it'd be allowed since some ingredients might be considered 'living'), and dried spices. If any of these, do they have to be in new, sealed containers or can some have already been opened? Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

Almost everything you want to take is high in Glucose If this is not a diet of choice, ask your Dr if you can go and skip your diet for a week. I cant see you taking 7 or 14 days worth of food with you. Call your airtransat group and ask them if you must. Go to Mexico and jump in with both feet if your Dr says you can. They have a lot of what you want to take at Wal Mart Cancun

You can only bring foods in their original packaging, no homemade foods. It is sometimes a crap shoot on what will get through. There was a shake-up in the customs agent department, and I have heard that the new agents are more professional. I don't promise it would work, but you might try putting some foods in vacuum sealed packages and putting printed computer labels on them. Keep in mind that if you go to the outdoor markets in Mexico, the fruits and vegetables are very fresh and only need a little wash in an iodine solution to be very healthy. Think of it as a big farmers market open all the time.
