How can you find someone in Mexico?

How can you find a birth certificate for someone born in Mexico? Is there a website, a phone number? Anything?

  • My father was born in Mexico, he has been living here for over 60 years (NO, HE IS NOT HERE ILLEGALLY) and we need a copy of his birth certificate. He has no family over there anymore and we cannot travel over there.

  • Answer:

A personal visit to the local municipio office or possible the hospital he was born are your only chance. Records after that amount time disappear in Mexico. We couldn't find records for a 7 year old a few years ago so she could go to school - we had to use a lawyer Even in the US there is not one central location to get a birth certificate

Well it depends on where he was born ..what city. They all are so different. Some people do not even register their births in a court house ..they only have their Baptism Record that you can get form his church. First step is to would be to contact the Mexican Consulate here in the US and tell them what city he was born...They can help you from there. My husband was born in Mexico.

there are mexican states that do offer some kind of service online but its limited to the most recent records. re write your post to include what state he was born in. since the information that can be provided varies by state and municipality

It is extremely difficult to do this in Mexico...you MUST go in person to the town where you were born, to the palacio municipal, to the registrar's office. Then, for records that old, there may very well be no records. I suppose he could try calling the palacio municipal in the town where he was born...but I have been through this with a friend and it took a looong time, several trips to the little remote town, several trips to court , and money to get it. It is absolutely impossible to get info on this on the internet. You could post another question and give the name of the town where he was born. There are a lot of people who live in Mexico who use Answers...and if one of us lives near that town, we might be able to make inquiries for you...just to see if the records still exist. But, I guarantee you, the birth certificate would never be handed to anyone but the person whose name is on it, or the parent if that person is a minor.

My experience has been that family members can get these documents from the registro civil - but they usually need some kind of identification of the person whose acta they are wanting a copy of. If there are any family friends (or someone you could 'meet' online that would do you the favor) that could go to the registro civil in the city where his acta was originally registered - they could at least give it a try and find out what all will be required in order to get the document. I'm sorry that I can not be of more help, but in person is probably the only way you'll get your hands on a copy of that acta. Suerte!
