Will an epipen help for a peanut allergy (no anaphylaxis?

What do you do if you have a medical emergency in Los Cabos, Mexico?

  • My family and I are planning to travel to Los Cabos, Mexico. We have a member of our family with severe peanut and nut allergies. What do you do if an allergy reaction occurs? We have Epipens and Benadryl, but we cannot call 911 after we inject the epipen. What do we do, or what do we call, and how do you say in spanish "I need medical help now, because of a severe allergy reaction!"? Of course we'll take all the added precautions to ensure that this doesn't happen, but just in case! Any help on who to call or what to do or what to say will be deeply appreciated!

    You can go to Red Cross hospitals, or like Charlie said, check with your hotel to see if they have staffed E-doctors. The emergency number in MX is 066, but this probably won't help if you don't speak spanish.

Talk to management at your hotel to find out if they have a doctor on staff & where the nearest hospital is. To call for an ambulance, you call 066 and say"ambulancia." and give the address or name of place where you are. WRITE this down and carry it with you....." Mi hija tiene alergia a cacahuates." Show them the epi pen you used so they know she has had that. Most places there have people on staff that speak English. As I said before, unless you eat in a Chinese restaurant, you are unlikely to run into peanut exposure.

I am not familiar with those types of allergies but am curious to know what can be done at a Hospital to remedy the problem. Peanuts are know as Cacauates..cah-cah-ewh-aht -tays. The rest is close to English "Alergias Severas" Al ler he asss say ver ahs I can`t think of any meals that contain them or any other nuts for that matter. Hospital and Doctor are used in Mexico in the same way. Medico is used as well for Doctor. You will likely want to find out where the closest Hospital is. "Donde esta el Hospital mas cerca". Where is the closest Hospital Oh-spee--tahl accent on the last syllable Los Cabos is a region and former name for the International airport there. You will be landing in San Jose del Cabo. If you are going to Cabo San Lucas and should know exactly which city you will be in and which Hospital to locate
