Should I go on vacation with my friend to Mexico?

  • My best friend and her family are going to Mexico in December. I have known her since the second grade, and I am always over at her house. I would say we are very close. We are both 16. Her and her family speak Spanish, and I know some. We plan on flying down to Leon where her mother has family members. We will be staying for a week. I really would love to go. And I think I would be safer going with them because they lived there and speak the language. My parents say it's up to me if I go or not. But what do you think? Go or stay?

You have an excellent opportunity to visit a foreign country, I say "go for it!" The area where it sounds like you may be visiting is what is considered, "Colonial" Mexico since for a while in it's history, Mexico was conquered by both Spain and France. So you will find remnants of this period... beautiful architecture, design, and cuisine. Make sure you do a little research on the cities you will visit. There is a lot to learn and you will really benefit from knowing a little before you get there. It is a wonderful opportunity! Also, learn a little spanish on your trip. Your Mexican hosts will appreciate your trying to understand and learn about their language and history. Mexicans are very proud and will love to show off their beautiful country. Enjoy!
