Answer:
Kids in Mexico talk about sex. They smoke pot (and drink) they fight, they go out, and they break up. Unruly students are sent to detention or to stand in the hallway. If necessary a letter is sent to the parents. As a last resort suspension or expulsion is a possibility. Private schools mostly start at 7:00 A.M. and let out at 2:00 A.M. Public schools usually have shifts- one groups goes in the morning and a different group goes in the afternoon. Most schools K - 9 require uniforms every day with some allowing a casual Friday. High schools for the most part do not require uniforms although some do. A very few private junior high schools do not require daily use of the uniform. Your main concern is not speaking Spanish. Many of the better private schools have many classes in English, Spanish IS a curriculum course and you would have to know soem Spanish. If you go to one of the private schools like The American School ( a chain with branches in several cities), the Westhill Academy or Colegios Peterson (two posh schools in Mexico City) it might be easier to get by without knowing any Spanish at first. I recommend your learn some Spanish if you can't avoid Mexico completely.

Schools can be different in different parts of Mexico. Ii live in Veracruz and can tell you about schools here. There are public schools and private schools...many more kids here go to private school than in the U.S. The great majority of schools wear uniforms. A few private schools may not, but most do. School is half day for grade school, a bit longer for middle school and longer for high school. Many high schools have a morning session and an afternoon/evening session so kids can work if they like. There are specialized high schools that are like a vocational school...where you can specialize...like in computers. School is compulsory only to the third grade. There is no misbehavior,if a kid is not good or has poor grades, he is kicked out. His parents will have to pay to send him to private school for at least one semester, then he can reapply to get into public school. Everyone cannot attend public high school. There is a test ( very hard) that they must pass to get into public high school. If they do not pass, they must go to private school until they can pass the test. Private schools put up with some misbehavior and take kids with academic problems because they want the money. Some private schools are very good, some are not. Same for public schools. High school kids generally go to school at 7 and get out at 1:30...or they may go from 2 or 3 til 9 pm. Discipline? they call the parents...that is usually sufficient. You need to start learning Spanish. Even schools that teach English , have their other classes in Spanish. there are a few schools that have other classes in English. These are fancy private schools in large cities.

Well, youth is pretty much the same. I went o junior high in Texas and then completed my education in Mexico, so I can tell you the differences I noticed: 1. In Mexico people fight less and much less violently (I saw some pretty rough fights in my school in Texas, and never seen such thing in Mexico). There is also almost no racism in Mexico, and all colors of people mix with no problem. 2. I went to private school in Mexico City and wore no uniform. 3. The ambiance is much more friendly -flexible- in Mexico, I mean, the little groups of "the popular", "the geeks" and this kind of stuff do talk to each other and party together even. The "different" one is not looked over, rather just included (in general). 4. There are much less after school activities in Mexico, like sports, orchestras and that kind of stuff. Rather they took me out on school trips much more. 5. Education in the school of Mexico was much more demanding that in Texas (Texas was easier). 6. School buses in Mexico are not very efficient, and the installations of some public schools could be quite shabby. So it depends a lot where you are going to live and if you go to a private, public, catholic school or whatever. I think big cities like Mexico City or Guadalajara could be funnier than small provinces. I just LOVED my school in Mexico City, called "Colegio Madrid"
