Is anyone familiar with the route to Queretaro from Minnesota via Laredo, Texas?

Can anyone please tell me what I might expect as I drive from Laredo, Texas to Queretaro (city).?

  • I drove this route some 12 years ago and encountered many difficulties the main one being road construction. I hope the route is finished now and easier to travel. We are a family of 4 (two adults and two teenaged boys). What will I encounter for car insurance? Is there someone at the boarder who will assist me with this? Is integrety a concern? Any comments or advise about this trip will be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

You will have to buy insurance (at the border) and probably leave a deposit for your car. You will have to drive to Monterrey (the freeways are very nice, but there are tollbooths, in total it will cost about 100 dollars), then to Saltillo, then to Matehuala (take the libramientos, that way you won´t have to go into the city), and continue to Queretaro. There are many gas stations and places to eat. Probably there will be road blocks by the army or agricultural services between states, you cannot carry drugs or weapons (fire arms or big knives) nor meat or fruits & vegetables. Don´t pick up hitchhikers. Have a great time!
