What are some affordable vacations spots?

Recommend any vacations spots in Mexico?

  • Does anyone recommend any vacation spots in Mexico? Im looking to stay along the gulf. I have never been and am planning on going in April. Id prefer somewhere where its not TOO crowded and reasonably priced...I just want opinions from people whos been there.

  • Answer:

I'd recommend staying in the Mayan Riviera, which is on the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Southern Shore of the Gulf. This is a popular tourist area, with lots of amenities nearby, but its not overcrowded like some. Specifically, I'd recommend the Barcelo Maya Colonial. The food was amazing, the buffet changed daily and never got old, and the beach was pristine. Quite large when compared to most of those in Cancun and it has earned every bit of its 5 star rating. I couldn't have been happier with the resort. The rooms, beach, restaurant, staff, etc. were all great. I wrote a review of my stay there for The Canadian Traveler; in the sources below. The beaches here were fantastic, much bigger than at the resorts in say, Cancun so you were able to spread out, etc. and it didn't feel crowded. The sand was beautiful, soft and white, and the water was great too.

I think Cancun gives you more options of things to do, like: You can take a zip line through the jungle and ride a horse in the surf at Selvatica - The Adventure Kingdom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVmTYnrLQPA http://www.selvatica.com.mx/ Take a tour over to the Maya ruins at Chichen Itza. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjOyi2IQKSI Snorkel with the fish at Xel-ha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vneKV2Z9YM4 http://www.xelha.com/ See the animals, shows and swim an underground river at Xcaret. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-brYbwBlFr4 http://www.xcaret.com/

I would check out Secrets Capri. It is a fantastic resort located in the Riviera Maya. I’m a big fan of snorkeling and Secrets Capri has the best snorkeling since the world’s second largest barrier reef lies right off the shore. I also love that they have a wait staff at the pool and the beach. Once I’m settled in a spot, I don’t have to move a muscle because the waiters take care of everything, it’s the best. The food is also amazing. I am a big fan of Portofino, the Italian restaurant. The steak is so good. Good luck with your decision!

I've been to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta.... Cancun was like spring break, and Puerto Vallarta was kind of geared towards homosexuals. The beach was nice in Cancun, the beach in PV was crap. Cancun was less "Mexican", there was a lot more local flavor in PV. If I was to go back and I had to pick between the two, I'd return to Cancun.

I'd have to agree with all the Cancun people, and I would definitely recommend NOT going there during spring break or the summer time if you wish to avoid the large crowds.

I recommend Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, here I leave a bit of information, it is a cheap, good beaches and good atmosphere, night and day. A few miles from Acapulco is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, hot weather most of the year. This place is surrounded by a chain of mountains. The village called Zihuatanejo, but the resort that was created to its coast is noted for its luxury hotels and their ability to receive more than 600 boats. In Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo you can enjoy beautiful beaches like La Ropa and Playa Linda, his surf beaches is very gentle and perfect for relaxing. Although you can also practice different water sports like windsurfing, sport fishing, etc.. Sailfish abound in this area, so is the seat of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Annual International Sailfish Tournament Tournament, held in May. But also because of its vegetation, Ixtapa is a perfect place to practice camping, ecotourism, golf at Club de Golf Palma Real, where species like alligators and eagles, and some endangered species like the olive ridley and hawksbill turtles. Come meet this wonderful place that every corner you'll be amazed.
