Anyone has been to riviera Maya Mexico?

Has anyone ever been to the Royal are the Valentin Riviera Maya in Playa Del Carmen Mexico ?

I will be turning 40th on October 22 of this year and want to do somethng big for my birthday but I am on a tight budget. I have a travel agent and he recommened The Royal are the Valentin Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen. I have seen the properties and they are both gorgeous with excellent reviews but can't decide. So if anyone has been to either can you give me some suggestions. I am leaning towards the Royal.Also I wanted to go around the end of September are anytime in October but I know that is hurricane season. Can someone tell me when is the best time to go and which hotel do you think is nicer. I will take any suggestions. I am just trying to get and Ideal I haven't finalized anything yet. So I wanted some advice before I do. Also if you have been to another hotel that you recommend that is fine too.

I think royal would be a better choice. Mexican beaches can be lovely.
