What are houses in Mexico Made out of?

  • I am looking to buy a House in Mexico and I am looking to get a beach house. However all the ones I look at seem to be made out of some kind of brick or concrete. I was wondering if anyone knows what they are actually made out of. Also becuase I was thinking about maybe the possibility of making a construction business down there and would like to know if anyone knows how they are made

    Home construction in Mexico is mostly masonry -- concrete block or brick or poured concrete. The primary reason for that is that the mineral resources that go into those types of construction are readily available in many areas of Mexico, while the timber for wood construction is hard to find and expensive. As for your idea of creating a construction business in Mexico, you would have to get an FM-2 visa to qualify for owning a business in Mexico, or for paid employment of most kinds. Also, be aware that as an alien, you cannot actually own real estate along the coastline. You'll have to get a "fideicomiso" trust arrangement with a bank. The trust will hold title, and you retain control of the trust. It's a way of subverting the intent of the law.

Construction methods of housing in Mexico are much different than in the US. Houses in Mexico are usually made from a frame work in concrete and rebar. The areas between are filled with bricks or blocks.

really depends on the region, in the north, most houses are made of concrete blocks. in the south, red brick is used, wooden construction is becoming more popular, but still lags behind concrete and brick.
