Why is the public transport (metro rail) in Mexico city so popular?

    I could ad, most sincerely that it is extremely clean, actually it is almost cleaned non stop and it is safe. I always come back late, walk through the corridors and I have no problem. The only thing i can't stand is all these guys getting in with loud DVD players to sell their stuff The Mexico city metro is a place of life with food stores, natural health products, sandwiches and cakes, peanuts and chips, + a lot of incredible local junk food lol. In some stations, many actually, they have displays of pictures, photographs about Mexico, history , and even stuff all kind of stuff It is cheap as well. People contribute only 3 pesos while it costs (supposedly) 9 pesos. (1 dollar =12 pesos) go and enjoy PS : I am French and retiring in Mexico next spring after 39 years of love with Mexico...

It is popular because it does not have stop lights, is fast, reliable and relatively safe overall. In the rush hours all the wagons are full and sometimes you need to wait for the next train to arrive to be able to board it. Many times you have to push your way in and out the wagons when it is overcrowded. Is best to have your wallet in your front packet for you get pretty squeezed sometimes. It is the fastest way to move around the city.
