Need help to move around in Mexico City!!?
-
I'll be on a business trip and need to plan my itinerary to visit some clientes. For this I need to know which neighborhood (colonia) is close to another. Have been looking all over the web without success and I don't have a bookstore nor a map close. Is Colonia Polanco close to Anzures? What about Juarez? Col. Los Morales, Col Guadalupe??

Answer:
When doing business in Mexico, I recommend to give yourself at least an hour if not more between meetings for the following reasons: 1. Traffic - you never know what to expect 2. Tardiness - Unfortunately, the fact that Mexicans are always running late is true. It doesn't mean you can be late, but meetings can start anywhere from 10 mins to 30 mins late. I would always arrive 10 mins late, announce myself, and about 10% of the time my meetings started on time... they always had me wait. My recommendation, if it's your first time and your company is willing to pay, hire a taxi for the day at the hotel your staying, so that that taxi will be ready after one meeting to take you to the next, and you can focus on work. Depending on the distances, can vary from $70-$150 US Dollars. Once I got comfortable and knew my way around, I used the local taxis, but at the beginning usually would use a hired taxi. As for distances, guia roji si the best site to look up the colonias. The website is below:

I would definitely recommend you use a Taxi de Sitio or Radio Taxi at minimum, you can get one from your hotel, or call one from whereever you are. They are safer, and know the city well. Pick up a Guia Roji and ask the concierge for some orientation when you get there. They sell these things and other useful maps at any Sanborn's (cafeteria/bookstores)- or at newsstands.
