Answer:
Hi! You didn't metion whether your friend has the telcel or Movistar cellular carrier. With telcel from your PC it is on the page: http://www.ideastelcel.com/ (bottom right), you put in the 10 digit number (like 3331234567). The problem with the text message using your PC is that if your friend has the type of service most of us do - telcel prepaid ("plan amigo"), they will need to activate the internet text messages capability and this will cost 100 pesos (US$9.00) a month for unlimited receiving from internet. Most of us have plan amigo prepay as you go. If they have a monthly rate plan, it's a similar deal, but 92 pesos (US$8.25) monthly for unlimited messages from the internet. For Movistar, I don't have them but I justcalled customer service for you tosee what they said about sending text messages to their phones from the internet, it's a little different. You will need to know your friends cellular phone number, say, 3331234567 and their text messaging password. Then go to this page: http://www.movistar.com.mx/home/index.html On the bottom right put in the ten digit number 3331234567 and their password and you can send them up to five messages per day. Wierd, a password, but I guess it makes sense to screen whocan send messages to you. He said the password was only for text messages and not for your personal account. I amwonderingif the rep knew what he was talking about but it looks right. Why not try to send your friend a text message using your cell phone? If a phone call doesn't work, the text message still should. If they has a GSM (chip) phone with telcel, just send +523331234567. Your handset will have a way to make the plus sign, maybe by pressing on the asterisk key a few times. With t-Mobile my messages get through to telcel every time right away. The 52 is the Mexico country code. Itseems to work with the plus, too. The 333 might be 331 or something else but it should be something like that for the Guadalajara area code. Then the 1234567 would be the local number. If they don't have GSM, but an old style digital with telcel, send it to this 011523331234567, which is probably the same way you call. For Movistar between US cell phones, for them to send you a message from a Movistar Mexico phone they send it to 0011XXX1234567 where the XXX is your area code and 1234567 is your local number. It only costs them 0.98 pesos (less than nine cents) per message to send and is free to receive. This is my favorite way to communicate between the US (US cell phone) and Mexico (Mexican cellphone) and it is cheap, usually $0.10 to $0.20 per msg to send to Mexico and less to receive. In Mexico receiving is usually free but sending usually costs about a peso (a dime). Two last tips in case it helps. (1) if you send between cell phones instead of using a PC, sometimes one person has better luck than the other. I'm not sure if it is because the other person makes a mistake or there really is a problem. So when I go to the US and Use my US cell phone, I send a first message, and she always just replies to it and that seems to work much better for her. (2) There are supposedly free web pages out there that can send text messages, that aren't affiliated with the phone carriers. They haven't worked well for me, though you might have better luck. Try Googling for them...Also, some let you do email (this won't work with telcel if they haven't paid the monthly fee, if telcel, [email protected]). For movistar you migh be able to just email to this [email protected], I'm not sure. Here's an example email to message page: http://www.pixpulse.com/emailsms Good Luck!

I know with my provider if I log onto their site they have a section for sending text messages. You could try that, I don't know if all providers are the same. I haven't ever had a problem sending texts to Mexcio and we send them all the time. I send them to Michoacan and to Puebla I don't see why it wouldn't work for Jalisco??? Good luck.
