I want to go to playa del carmen this March. I will only be staying for 3 days and would like to get the most out of the trip. Has anyone been there for scuba diving, visit the mayan ruins, anything..? I want to know what the best things are to do out there.

You definitely need to go to Xel-ha and also X-caret. They are ecological themed nature parks. Once there you can swim in mystic Mayan waters, swim with the dolphins, tour the cenotes, and even try a new thing they got called Snuba, and a variety of other activities. The ancient Mayan ruins are also very neat and interesting to visit. The two places I would recommend are Chichen-Itza and Tulum. Tulum is very neat to see because it's right on the Caribbean and you can get some amazing pictures. Chichen-Itza has the famous El Castillo pyramid that has all the steps up to the top. If you are passionate about scuba diving I provided a link below for you to check out. It's the best dive shop in Playa. Also, as always if you get the chance try parasailing and/or riding sea-doos in the Caribbean. It's a lot of fun! Enjoy your time...you will have a blast!!!

My husband and I were there last year at this time. The scuba diving is 1st rate. Go on a guided trip they will take you to some awesome site including really neat senote(SP). We also went to Tulum...I would do a guided tour there also but do the shorter it is too hot for more than a few hours. Also downtown Playa is not to be missed. The shops are great and in the market you can find some great deals. Also, you can catch a ferry to Cozumel...awesome SCUBA diving there...

I have been to Playa Del Carmen, Cancun and Riviera Maya and all three are amazing. The white-sand beaches of Playa del Carmen provide the best setting to do various outdoor activities, such as hiking or horseback riding, while you enjoy the warmth of the sun, the ocean breeze and the wonderful landscapes characteristic of the Quintana Roo coast. Places to go: Parque Ecologico Tres Rios ? Located 11 km (7 mi) north of Playa del Carmen off the Cancun-Tulum Highway 307. At this ecological park embedded in a subtropical jungle you can have the memorable experience of a close encounter with nature. The park is closed due to remodeling, but will reopen its doors in summer 2006. This park offers guided horseback tours along the beach or on trails that cut through the jungle. It also has horseback riding classes for all ages and skill levels. Xcaret ? Located 8 km (5 mi) south of Playa del Carmen off the Cancun-Tulum Highway 307. At this place, among many other attractions, you?ll find archaeological ruins of one of the most important ceremonial centers of Mayan culture. You?ll also see plenty of natural beauty such as caves, underground rivers full of colorful indigenous fish, and a reef aquarium. Open daily from 8:30 am to 10:00 pm. Tel. (998) 883-0470. www.xcaret.com Here you can go horseback riding in the park with the Caribbean Sea as a backdrop. Zona de Cenotes. This sinkhole zone is located west of Playa del Carmen. In this region you can dive among underground sinkhole formations such as those at Chac-Mool, La Ponderosa, Dos Ojos, Nohoch-Na-Chich, Gran Cenote, Car Wash, Chikin Ha, Taj Mahal and Angelita. In Playa del Carmen you?ll find touring companies that will teach you how to dive in sinkholes. Parque Ecologico de Xpu-Ha. Located 32 km (20 mi) southwest of Playa del Carmen. At this place you can go snorkeling and scuba diving along the reefs off the coast. In its coves you can observe hundreds of multicolored fish. Xel-Ha. Located 47 km (29 mi) south of Playa del Carmen off the Cancun-Tulum Highway 307. This is an ecological park where you?ll find coves, sinkholes (ponds connected to underground river systems), lagoons, caves with subterranean rivers and springs that empty into the sea. Open daily from 8:30 to 6:00. Tel. (998) 875-6000 www.xel-ha.com. At this ecological park you can go swimming and snorkeling on an impressive tour that allows you to admire underwater life in crystalline rivers and well-lit caverns. You can also do the Sea Trek, an exciting adventure tour that gives you the opportunity to witness marine life without having to be an expert scuba diver. Parque Ecologico Tres Rios. This ecological park has eight sinkholes where you can scuba dive with experienced guides. Among its services, the park offers diving classes for all skill levels and ages. Plaza La Marina. Located on Calle 1 Sur, between Quinta Avenida and the Federal Maritime Zone. I would recommend either Chichen Itza or Xcaret. Both of them are amazing archaeological sites and are not too far from either Cancun or Playa del Carmen. If you get a chance check out my blog on some of the different things that you can do down in Playa del Carmen and Cancun. http://chichenitzatoursandvacations.blogspot.com/ Have a good Trip.
