Anyone been to the Riviera Maya in Mexico...?
-
I am booking a trip to The Reef Playacar in the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I am booking the flight to Cancun. From Cancun, can I get a taxi/airport shuttle to the hotel or should I just rent a car because we will be staying at the hotel sice in it all inclusive. All I need is transportation to and from the airport. Any Ideas?

Answer:
If your all inclusive is air and resort, it is likely transport from the airport to your resort is included. If not, contact your resort, they will have a shuttle service at a decent price. They usually use a local service such as Cancun-transfers. Once you have everything arranged for your transfer, remember, once you get through customs, and security at the Cancun airport, don't stop for anything until you get out the front door. There, you will find your ride waiting for you. They will be holding a company or resort sign. If you stop inside the airport, you will be hounded by time share sharks with promises of free rides and tours. If you want to waste several hours of your holiday time, and a lot of pressure to buy a time share, then go for it. Myself, I just ignore everyone, and don't make eye contact until I'm out the door.

Hey, good for you! Your hotel is in a bonded neighborhood called Playacar, very close to Playa del Carmen downtown (5th Avenue), so probably the best idea is to move by taxi once you get there. However, the Cancún airport is some 40 miles away from Playa del Carmen, and a cab may cost you some $70-90 to get to your hotel. If you can rent a car for some $50-60/day I would rent a car at the airport and use it to visit some other interesting places like Tulum (both the beaches and the ruins) and to go to Cancún one night to dine out. In PLaya del Carmen I suggest you skip some of the hotel dinners and go the one of the nice restaurants like The Glass Bar. Please check more info in my blogs. Best, Roberto

Hey.... I not recommend rent a car, is better you'll book online a transportation. I really can recommend this link www.cancun-transfers.net Is a goooooood service, is safe, clean so very well. ☺☺☺☺ You can try !!
Your hotel will probably offer transfers to and from the airport. When you book your trip, look for transfers. This is usually the easiest way to travel to your hotel. A taxi from the airport will run $50-$75. You can ask the hotel for a more accurate quote. Once you get to your hotel, you probably won't want a rental car. You will be close enough to walk in Playa Del Carmen. And any extra excursions you might want to go on will include transportation. So, my first choice would be hotel shuttle, then taxi as second choice. Rental car as a last resort.
