What is there to do in and around Buenos Aires?

What can you tell me about starting a bar in Buenos Aires?

  • A group of us are flirting with the idea of opening up a bar/small music venue in Buenos Aires. We are all Americans who have business training but have never worked in a foreign country. We have spent time in BsAs and realize it is a different regulatory environment than the US. But... -How difficult is the regulatory environment for a foreigner? -If we wanted to buy our location, are there still very good value realistate investments in the popular neighborhoods (Palermo, Recoletta, BelGrano, etc.)? -Is there a strong market for live music in Buenos Aires outside of tourism? Any insights that anyone can provide are greatly appreciated. We will remember you and you will be treated well at our spot if you ever come to BsAs.

  • Answer:

You are right, the regulatory norms are very different. First , the easy way es to buy one is already working with permit(habilitacion comercial). Generally you'll pay more for the "Fondo de Comercio" (royalty) but is not so expensive like here. If you are going to start from zero, there are some considerations. First the argentinian law is easy and very open for immigration, you move there and you will have the same rights and the citizenship , and your CUIT (argentinian ssn) very easy and quickly. From that moment you are like any argentino, and you can keep your us citizenship. Then you have to go to the city goverment because there are restricted zones for bars and you have to found a rental or for sale place that fit your expectation inside of the city regulations. The alcohol sale needs permission but you don't have to buy a license like here. I have been in USA last 6 years but as far as i know there are good market for live music,Argentiness are very open to many musical styles but the young market as being more dividedBetweenn "Cumbia and Bailanta" very local cheap music, Local Rock, Latinos multinational music speciallyy in dance clubs), Classic International Rock ( Rolling Stones kind) and so. I remember to watch down there how a dance club start from scrach and make a very good pisition in the night life, called "El Bosque" is in a far part of Quilmes , kind of 15 miles South of downtown Bs As, and the main attraction was the live music .
