Why didn't Britain try to colonize Latin America?

There is a strong influence of British colonization in parts of the America's including the islands in the Atlantic. Also Belize was colonized by Britain and they just recently gained their independence in the mid 1980's. The Atlantic side of Nicaragua was colonized by the British and even though Nicaragua is totally independent of both Spain and Britain, the Atlantic side of Nicaragua still has British roots and ties to Britain. In emergency cases, i.e., hurricanes, famine, Britain always sends a ship or aid to the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua and many there fly British flags.

Do you mean after Spain lost its colonies there or at an earlier stage? At an earlier stage, I assume Spain had already conquered most before England/Britain became more powerful than Spain, so England then chose to focus on North America. Later on, Britain probably preferred other areas that were more easy to conquer. Beside there were also other ways than direct territorial conquest to gain influence.
