Where should I study abroad this summer?

Where should I study abroad this summer in Latin America?

  • I'd like to study in Argentina, Chile, or Costa Rica...I can't decide. I want to go for a month so I can really practice my Spanish. My college has a program in Costa Rica but I want to visit a friend in Santiago, Chile and Argentina really interests me too. Any recommendations? Any idea on the level of safety also? Thanks!

  • Answer:

Chile is most definitely the best of the three. First of all it is one of the most beautiful countries ever. Santiago is very European and classy too. Especially if you have the added motivation of a friend there, you should visit there.

Lol, some people don't seem to understand your question. Anyways, well, my cousin studied at Universidad de Buenos Aires and he told me that it was great! I would recommend you study in Argentina. I mean come on, a good university and a beautiful country, nothing beats that. Although i have heard Chile to be just at wonderful as argentina. If you happen to go, make sure you visit Iguazú Falls. =D

You should be fine as far as safety goes. All of these destinations are great places. Argentina is amazing. Buenos Aires is the Paris of South America. If you have any interest in wildlife, like birds, Costa Rica is fantastic.

It depends on what you are looking for since the countries listed offer very different things. I spent a fair amount of time in South America over the summer and really want to go back. Argentina is very European, offering the very similar food, clothing, and lifestyles at 1/2 the cost. Life in Buenos Aires revolves around clubs and early morning parties! I didn't spend much time in Chile, but wasn't too happy with Santiago. It was more expensive and the people did not seem as nice. Never been to Costa Rica, but would like to go. I don't know you're considering other countries but Ecuador is the place I recommend most. You can take private Spanish lessons for $4/hour (less if you buy a package deal) and it offers something for everyone-shopping, clubs, whale watching, moutain biking, hiking up volcanos, art, history, the list goes on and on! Hope you as much fun as I did! The best advice though is to stay with a host family wherever you end up! I did most of my learning speaking to my family.
