    As said above, depends where you start and where you will stay. If in a hostel, nice, but cheap, U$ 100.00 dollars for housing and some other US$ 100.00 for food (hamburgers, beverage, pizza). If you prefer "COPACABANA PALACE" and sophisticated restaurants, it will costs some 1,200-3,000 Dollars.

I've been there. It's not worth it to go there during Carnival season and if you must travel to Brazil, try Bahia first and then, go to Rio de Janeiro. The most simple 3 or 4 Star Hotel will cost you (with breakfast only) 180 dollars a day in Copacabana.

The cheapest place is Morro de Sinuca, they love american Gringos there! :) Seriously though, as someone else said, it really depends where you are travelling from.
