Is Brazil a dangerous country to visit occasionally?

  • I am a white brown man and I have got a job in Spain. And since I speak Portuguese and Spanish fluently, they have given me once a month business tour of Brazil and Mexico for a good raise in pay. Now both these countries are extremely touristy and beautiful, but as I've heard they both a very dangerous too. Is Brazil really that dangerous? Also, its hard to distinguish between me and a Brazilian person too.

    As Renato said, you don't need to use a definite article before someone's name. BUT there is a small rule to use them: You use the article when talking about someone who is close to you (like a friend or family) and you omit it when talking about someone you're not close to. For example, you can say: "Esse caderno é de Pedro" (This notebook belongs to Pedro). But if "Pedro" is your brother or friend, you can say "Esse caderno é do Pedro" (do = de + o) Anyway, you can say both of them whenever you want.

It depends. If you go to the city of Rio de Janeiro, yeah, it is dangerous. If you go to a city in southern Brazil, like Florianopolis, Joinville, Blumenau, Itajai, Novo Hamburgo, Sao Leopoldo, Caxias do Sul, Tubarao... it's safer. The Southern states had population of European immigrants, as Germans, Italians, Slavs, and some Asians like Japaneses (Paraná), these states are more developed than the rest of Brazil.

It depends on the city, the region of Brazil where you go. If you go to Rio de Janeiro, or the city of São Paulo, yes, it is dangerous. If you go to a beach town in the northeast, or for any city in the south is quieter.
