Which South East Asian country would you recommend?

I want to move to South America, Can you recommend a country?

  • Hello, I'm an American guy in my 20s and would like to move to some place in South America. I'm a programmer but can work in any computer related job. What country would be best? Any recommendations?

  • Answer:

Take a look at Central America. There are lots of US citizens living here now and it's a lot closer to home, thus less expensive if you plan to do any traveling back and forth. Panama and Costa Rica are more "Americanized" than the other countries but are more expensive as well. Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua have lots to offer a young ambitious person and the cost of living is a pittance compared to the US. With your skills you can probably work for close to US wages for many companies. Bear in mind, whatever country you settle in, Central or South America, you will need to go through the process of obtaining a residency, which can be long and frustrating. You can usually obtain a work permit if you find an employer who will sponsor you. Most countries will issue work permits before you have a residency if you have a skill that the local people cannot fill. I urge you to do lots of research and even spend some time in whatever country you chose to live before you actually move there.

I will highly recommend ARGENTINA. Argentina is a place that has the particularity that many people speaks English, and also in the case of Buenos Aires( and many other cities), its a very European city so you wont feel such a difference with anything you are used to in my opinion its better since is not such a cultural crush if you know what i mean. Good luck KISSES

I think I would focus on either Argentina or Ecuador. I don't know about the job market in Ecuador, but it seems like the easiest place to assimilate. However, Argentina is the most economically stable country in South America, so that may be your best bet. I'm assuming you speak fluent Spanish, but if you don't, you should. I haven't traveled to Brazil, but you could also look into that. I can only speak from a traveler's point of view, but I think Ecuador is amazing. It's so easy to get around, it has beautiful beaches, rain forest and mountains. Plus, the people there are really warm and friendly. In Quito, there are a lot of foreigners who attend their university. My brother took a year of law school in Quito and loved it. Also, they use American currency there. Good luck!

I really think Argentina is a very welcoming country with a lot of emigrants and different cultures. The nature has a lot of different landscapes to offer, the meat is outstanding and Buenos Aires is a beautiful city with a high developed business centre where you should be able to find a job. http://www.yukiba.com/Argentina-travel.html
