4day inca trail trek tour?

My husband and I are thinking of 4day Inca Trail trek tour end of December. Our question is, should I purchase trek package in advance via internet or purchase trek tour upon arrival to Cuzco. I heard there are many tour companies in Cuzco and book on the spot, however also read that many companies want you to book a tour 3 months in advance...yikes! Can you advise which company you went with/recommend, your tour experience or any info you may think would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I have heard you can book when you get there, others say it is booked in advance for 3months. Try your luck and wait for more info from others but I went on the train for a day trip. There is however an alternative to the Inca trail and is available to book when you get there if you can't get on the Inca Trail.
