What are some good places to visit in El Salvador?

I'm heading to Metapan, El Salvador for about a week? Are there any interesting places to see and visit?

• I saw a few things online about volcanoes, and national parks.. not sure if to go with a tour group, or what to see, it's my first time going to El Salvador

  Because it's your first time going there I would recommend going with a tour group. Or if you are already going with a group of friends or colleagues, then maybe just go with them. If you don't have your own transportation, maybe a taxi would be your best bet. There's a beautiful lake very near that is called LAGO DE GUIJA good for boat tours, and other fun stuff. Also very near is the archaeological ruins of IGUALTEPEQUE, very nice place to go to check out the pre-colombian way of life. EL TAZUMAL is also in the area but a little further away near Chalchuapa. You might also want to try visiting MONTE CRISTO, this is a rain forest with great flora and fauna, it's near the border with Honduras, but close to Metapan. I'm sure there's more, but this is all I can think of right now. Enjoy the trip, and do tell us how it went! GVH
