Which should I travel to. Salvador or Iguassu Falls?

I want to travel to San Salvador,El Salvador to visit someone I know. Any tips?

  • I wish to travel to San Salvador, El Salvador within the next year. I have a friend that lives there and I would just like to know if there are certain things I need or should bring? I'm a canadian citizen so I know that we do not need visas to enter the country.

  • Answer:

Jon's answers is correct. Just be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine. There are more tourists flocking to El Salvador more than ever because it is safe, a lot safer than Mexico and other surrounding countries except maybe Costa Rica. You'll have a blast.

The previous two answers were terrible what ignorant people. Its safe to eat the food, just practive caution stay away from street vendors. thats just common sense, i live i the states and have gotten sick from eating from a food truck... Im sure there are places in Canada you wouldnt eat from also. Bring comfortable clothes. some people there are into fashion and youll find a great array of styles from hippie to emo to preppy dressers. If you plan to go out at night and party make sure you bring nice clothes to wear, Clubs in the capital enforce a dress code and will not let you get away with ghetto clothing. I guess it depends where your friend live also, definately bring a bathing suit you will visit the beach maybe more than one, and dont over eat seafood, not because its bad but because its fresh and too much fresh seafood is bad for anyone any where. Just dont eat turtle eggs they are protected even though some people still poach them. Im pretty sure you need a visa but you buy that there at the airport - itll be about 10 to 15 US dollars. oh yeah the country is on the dollar so everything will need to be paid in US dollars. Anything you forget you can buy there, people are under the impression that the counrty is so backwards that we dont even have electricity that is bull. Its even easier to travel there when you are visiting someone. theyll be able to guide you around and show you some cool stuff. Take a couple of pais of jeans, plenty of t-shirt, shorts - with cargo pockets that have zippers or velcro. Get a protective cover for you passport and such in case of rain. Its supposed to be the summer now but a hurricane just hit and there has been rain every now and then. Take comfortable shoes, you may be walking alot in the massive swiss like shopping centers. There are alot of outdoor stuff you can do like Canopy, surfing, hiking the volcanoes, rappelling of cliffs etc. depends of your friend. Below are some sites worth looking at. I would pack more based on the activities that you might be doing. It is a tropical country so take that into consideration you probably will not need any winter gear.

Just go, take clothes you would need to a warm place. Take stuff for the beach. I always take gifts for the family. Be courteous as you are a guest in that country. San Sal is a typical big CA city noisy, busy lots going on. But it does have some good museums and galleries. Remember that you may have to pay for transport for your friend. Unless your friend is very wealthy, they won't have the money to entertain you, so help out where you can. Just use common sense and you will be fine. And remember to hydrate, as it is warmer than you are used to. Unless Canada has a tropical region I am unaware of. Have a fun trip

Try not to speak English, hide your money throughout your clothes (i.e. in socks, in shoes, buy underwear that has pockets, and a little in some jean pockets) also try not to eat the meat, chicken, seafood. and dont drink the water....I did and I got very sick. Don't go anywhere alone. Have a safe trip!
