How to get a visa to the country of Ecuador?

Can i stay in Ecuador longer than 90 days if i go there without a visa?

  • Im going to Ecuador in a couple of weeks. I would if go there without a visa ( which means i could stay there for up to 90 days), and then decide i would like to stay for longer what can i do without having to leave the country? Can i get a tourist visa there? I still would like to freely be able to come back to the US whenever i would like though. Can someone please help me.

  • Answer:

I prefer to use the website of the Government of the visited country to check the entry requirements or if I can't get appropriate information there the IATA database which is used by aircraft carriers to determine the document requirements of their passengers. Checking Nationality: U.S.A. Destination: Ecuador revealed the following result: Passport required. - Passport and/or passport replacing documents must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival. Visa required, except for Nationals of U.S.A. for a max. stay of 90 days. Additional Information: - All visitors must hold return or onward tickets and sufficient funds. - Extensions to stays are possible for those visitors that do not require a visa to enter Ecuador. Applications should be made to the local Immigration Office and are considered on an individual basis, with no guarantee of extension. Aircraft companies however are required to maintain updated travel information since they will have to pay fines in case of non-compliance. An aircraft company for example would have to pay a fine of up to $3,300.00 for bringing an alien to the United States without a valid and unexpired entry document. They therefore keep their database up-to-date. The database however does not tell that you can extend your stay; it is stated that you may be able to get an extension approved, all dependent upon the decision of an Immigration Officer, same as in the United States. An extension may be possible to a stay of 180 days totally. Source(s): http://www.mmrree.gov.ec/mre/documentos/servicios/visas/visa12_IX.htm (in Spanish language only)

No, you cannot just decide to stay, nor can you obtain a visa once you're already there. The following information is from the Ecuador travel section of the US State Department website: "A U.S. passport with remaining validity of at least six months is required to enter Ecuador. A valid U.S. passport is required to depart Ecuador. Tourists must also provide evidence of return or onward travel. U.S. citizens traveling on regular passports for tourism or business do not need a visa for a stay of 90 days or less. Those planning a longer visit must obtain a visa in advance of arrival. Travelers who stay in Ecuador beyond the allowed entry time are charged a substantial fee and are barred from re-entering Ecuador for six months from the date of departure. An airport exit tax is required when departing Ecuador." You can read all of the information here: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1106.html
