Is there luggage storage at LAX?

When traveling from San Jose to Cahuita, Costa Rica is it safe to put my luggage in the storage of the bus?

  • I recently read to never put your luggage in the storage compartment of the bus because it can be easily stolen. Is that a common form of theft? Do they not put tags on your luggage?

    What I would do is try to bring it on board, if the driver lets you. If you can't take them on board, put them below and take a window seat near the luggage compartment door. This way, you can see what gets taken out at each stop. The inside luggage racks aren't 100% safe either. Petty thieves will stand (instead of taking a seat) and if you're not paying attention, or sleeping, may go through your bag and take what they like. You should sit on the OPPOSITEside from where you stowed luggage on the racks to have a good view of any prying fingers.

Theft is one of the most common crimes in Costa Rica. I lived there for a year though, kept safe and was only muggeed once! My friend had her luggage (passport, money etc) stolen off a bus so i wouldn't put my bags in the luggage compartment unless you see it go on and your the first to get out and take it off.They have racks where you can store your items above the seats and its much safer there...

My wife and I travel all over Central America by bus and have never had, or know anyone who has had, a single problem with putting luggage in the storage compartments. It goes without saying to have your bags clearly marked.

Yes is safe.... if you worry too much - get a little chain with a padlock and lock it to a metal hinge or so - inside the compartment.
