What is the best hotel in Costa Rica?

What beachfront hotel in Costa Rica is best (closest) for white water rafting?

  • Thanks in advance for helping! My wife and I plan on taking a trip to Costa Rica in mid January. She wants to lounge on a beach all day and I want to white water raft all day (Class IV or V). What hotel would give her beachfront lounging and close enough for me to take a white water trip? Hotel should be clean and friendly... and not nickle and dime you for everything. Meals should be reasonably priced ($10usd person per meal). Hope this isn't a tall request!

  • Answer:

So, why don`t you check at the Tamarindo or Conchal Area, that is good choice and the White Water Rafting Class IV & V is excellent at Tenorio River, see the email below and maybe you can find the best plans for you and your wife, [email protected]

Interesting that I just saw this - I spent almost a year in C R then we took our 5 kids back for a month vacation and the highlight was the rafting in the rainforest. You don't do it at the beach, guy. Beaches aren't great and currents are bad, it's poor swimming on both Pacific and Caribbean side, but the company picks you up and brings you back or whereever you want to go. Our kids loved this day best, we used Exploradores Outdoors and they have a www.exploradoresoutdores.com also a Puerto Viejo info center but that city is dirty, beaches are dirty, and the whole town smells of pot. Maybe Manuel Antonio is a better beach for the wife but actually she can hang out in a pool anywhere, ya know ? We stayed at the Kalexma B & B that costs about $35 double including an ok breakfast, in San Jose' right on the Pan American Hwy at Puente Juan Pable Segundo between the airport and city center but it has no pool. The Best Western is just across the Highway there but twice the cost. They have a pool. And it's near the most expensive Dennys In The World. Don't eat there. You can eat great meals right there at the shopping plaza just down from that Expensive Dennys , great meals, fantastic, for a couple of dollars, and there are cafe's as well as little restaurants right there. My kids were in heaven eating in the tiny restaurant inside the Mega Super then downstairs as well as upstairs right there. In Jaco, we stayed at the Blue Palms, I think that's it, they had a great pool, very nice, and not pricey either, but Jaco beach wasn't much and again, the dangerous currents. During the year I lived there there were drownings all the time, Check with our Embassy right there and you shall see that this is true what I'm telling you. Maybe wife can go to Florida for the great beaches, I live in Miami and the beaches are so wonderful all up and down the coast as well as in the keys if you know where to go and do something worthwhile when in Costa Rica with you. You can contact me and I'll send you another hotel in Jaco that had a great rate also and is very nice. They will pick you up almost anywhere I think to Raft, They make a cd for you of the rafting I'll send you a couple of photos of it if you'd like, e mail me at ----- yahoo answers or [email protected] Many hotels are in Manuel Antonio Beach but the white water rafting is in the rivers in the interior, of course. Maybe start in San Jos'e, What you would save staying at the Kalexma would pay for a weeks' great rafting and they would pick you up there. There are so so many good restaurants walking distance from the Kalexma, ask for Liliana, this is a typical Costa Rican Bed and Breakfast, charming, clean and safe, very safe, not poshy but it also offers free internet 24 hours and will do your laundry for a few dollars too. Nice people. Lily speaks English but usually her help doesn't - that's never a problem, she has mostly Yankees and Canadians guests. If you send Lilliana your flight arrival, airline and date and time, she will pick you up with her van and charge you very little, also take you back. She also has a service that will drive you to Manuel Antionio if you want to go there. Many of her clients would stay overnight with her upon arrival then she'd drive them off too someplace else.
